Wednesday 6th March was our Thames Valley Show jumping day, On the way over it was foggy, but sure enough once we hit the coast of Thames its was bright blue and set to be a great day out! Nicole Weatherley, Faith Spice, Stevie Collins and Ella Smart represented us this year. The Girls did an incredible job and represented Matamata well, they were supporting each other even when they had to run between rings because the rounds were clashing. Stevie & Simply Irresistible placed 3rd in the 65cm Accumulator and Nicole Weatherley & Jamabayla picked up a 3rd in the 1m class. Ella and Faith both rode beautifully but the competition was tough on the day and although they jumped clear rounds it didn’t necessarily mean a placing unfortunately.
Wednesday 28th March saw 3 of our equestrian team take on the Waikato inter-schools Show jumping in Cambridge. It was going to be a great mix of events, round one was a TAM3, round two was an accumulator and round 3 was a Jigsaw. The day looked as though it was going to be a bit tricky as it had been raining here in Matamata, however once we got to Cambridge the rain was holding off, by the time the girls had gone through the first round the clouds had disappeared and the sun was bright. Nicole Weatherley and Olivia Prendergast were both competing in the intermediate ring which was 90cm and Faith Spice was in the junior ring competing at 80cm. Nicole came 1st overall in the Intermediate ring with a 1st in the Accumulator, a 2nd in TAM3 and a 4th in Jigsaw. Faith had clear rounds all day but narrowly missed out on Ribbons which shows the talent that was there on the day. Olivia did an incredible job on her young Pony that was out at its 2nd ever show, they did an awesome job together as a new pair, they took out the 4th in the Jigsaw with Nicole too. Matamata College came 2nd overall with their points combined as a school team! We are very happy with this result and we also had two of our team who were out for this competition. Jo Weatherley, who manages this team is extremely proud of these girls and their results, It shows the dedication and passion these girls put into their sport and she couldn’t be prouder.
The Girls all compete individually most weekends as well so they are always prepared for these team days where they represent the college as a team.
Our team is growing and becoming really strong. We are very excited to see how far these girls can go.
