ANZAC 2019

Our Head Students all spoke impressively at the local Anzac Day services on the 25th April 2019. Our Head Girl Te Aorere Wharawhara and Head Boy Locryne Tiddy both addressed a large crowd at the Civic and Memorial Centre. Our Deputy Head Students Ollie Parton and Emily Nowell spoke at the Walton community service. Well done to all four students for their fine contributions on this special day. Lest we forget!

Several years ago the students in our Wellness Committee made crosses to commemorate those from the Matamata district who served overseas and those who did not return home. Members of the 2019 Wellness Committee set up the crosses on the front lawn of the school again this year.

The college held our own ANZAC ceremony on the 30th April 2019. The school all met in the hall where the head students recited their speeches and as they went to lay the wreath and move the flag the students were inside the hall for the last post while the names of those community members that we lost were read out. We finished by all singing the national anthem. It was very special and is important to commemorate in our own way as we all returned to school.

104 Anzac ceremonies, we will remember them.
